ELECTRICAL PANEL UPGRADES AND REPLACEMENT
Gengatorz Power Systems provides electric panel upgrades and electric panel replacement for homes and businesses. If your panel is undersized, outdated, or failing, our licensed electricians (License #63937) will size a new panel to your actual load, pull the permit, and install it to National Electrical Code (NEC) standards.
An upgrade raises your service capacity, most often from 100 amps to 200 amps, so you can add an EV charger, a backup generator, central air, or a remodel without overloading circuits. A replacement swaps a worn, damaged, or unsafe panel for a new one, even if your amperage stays the same. Both jobs start with an NEC Article 220 load calculation, not a guess. You get a clear quote before work starts, and the job is finished once it passes inspection and power is restored.

ELECTRIC PANEL REPLACEMENT FOR UNSAFE AND FAILING PANELS
Some panels need to come out no matter how much power you use. Federal Pacific Electric (FPE) Stab-Lok and Zinsco panels have a known history of breakers that fail to trip during an overload. Old fuse boxes, split-bus panels with no single main breaker, and panels with rust, scorch marks, or melted insulation also fall into this group.
Other signs point to wear inside the panel: a warm cover, a buzzing or crackling sound, a burning smell, or double-tapped breakers where two wires share one lug. Our electric panel replacement includes new breakers, updated grounding and bonding per NEC Article 250, and AFCI and GFCI protection where current code calls for it.
ELECTRIC PANEL REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT? WHAT YOUR PANEL ACTUALLY NEEDS
Not every problem calls for a new panel. Electric panel repair covers a single failed breaker, a loose neutral, a corroded lug, or a damaged connection at the main. If the panel is in good shape and sized for your load, a repair is the right call and we will tell you so.
Replacement makes more sense when the panel is on a known problem list, parts are no longer made, damage has spread past one breaker, or you would need an upgrade soon anyway. Tandem breakers stuffed into every slot are a sign the panel is out of room. We check the panel and show you what we found before recommending either path.
WHAT ACTUALLY MATTERS WHEN HIRING AN ELECTRICIAN FOR PANEL WORK?
Start with the license. Panel work should be done by a licensed electrical contractor who pulls a permit and schedules the inspection. Skip anyone who offers to do it without one. An unpermitted panel can cause problems with insurance claims and home sales.
Ask how they sized the new panel. A proper quote is based on a load calculation, not the biggest panel on the truck. Electric panel upgrade cost depends on amperage, whether the meter base and service conductors need replacing, the number of circuits moved, and any code updates. A clear written quote should list each of these. Ask whether the new panel has space for future loads like an EV charger, generator inlet, or whole-home surge protection.
